In June last year, the Second Meeting of the Fifth Bureaus of Chinese Society of Biochemistry discussed and decided to rename the Chinese Society for Biochemistry to “Chinese Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology”, and proposed to submit an application for change of name to the relevant departments of the state before agreeing again Submitted to the 1993 member congress formally confirmed. After the minutes of the council meeting were sent out, we learned that we have received a letter from Professor Zheng Ji and put forward different views on this issue. The principal responsible person of the Institute, who attaches great importance to Zheng’s opinion, admired Zheng for his earnest and responsible attitude toward the Institute and instructed the entire journal to publish letters so as to arouse discussion among members. In addition, we believe that under the current situation of reform and opening up in our country, it is necessary to discuss whether the name of the society should be treated in accordance with the nature of its subject or not, the nature and mission of the society, how to set up the organizational structure and how the institutional operating mechanism conforms to the market economy Operating rules and learning how to promote and serve the development of biochemistry and other issues in our country, have serious discussions necessary. Articles welcome contributions in this area. The full text of Professor Zheng Ji’s letter reads as follows:
