Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, president of the country, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, hosted the seminar on the reform and development of state-owned enterprises in six provinces and autonomous regions from June 29 to 30 in Wuchang. He emphasized that the reform of state-owned enterprises is the central link of the entire economic system reform. State-owned enterprises must form a dynamic mechanism that meets the requirements for the development of a socialist market economy, and develop and grow in the market’s storms. The whole party and the entire country must attach great importance to the reform and development of state-owned enterprises, earnestly sum up experience, analyze and solve existing problems so as to facilitate better progress. Attending the symposium were: Wu Bangguo, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premier of the State Council; alternate members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the Secretariat, and the Central Group.
