用仿形法加工标准直齿锥齿轮,通用模板是按被加工直齿锥齿轮的分度圆节锥角φ来选择使用的。切削前,刀具刃磨后,并按机床要求的安装高度和长度调整好卡紧。移动刀架使模板滚轮的中心O和模板中心O′(即模板分度圆与模板轮廓曲线的交点)重合,这时刀具的刀尖与直齿锥齿轮顶圆的距离等于大端模数(见图1),方可加工出正确的齿形。由于通用模板的设计原理是:假定把直齿锥齿轮背锥上的齿形视为平面渐开线(实际应为球面渐开线),而通用模板的理论渐开线就是按直齿锥齿轮背锥上展开的,相当于齿轮渐开线放大而成的,即图1中的OP曲线。
