夏德、柔克义二人都是19、20世纪之交学识渊博的汉学家,他们的深厚造诣和通力协作,保证并促成了《诸蕃志》(英)译注的问世。译注汇集了当时所见的权威中西史料,译文流畅,注释精详,足可为后世借鉴。诞生后,西方学界评析不断,褒贬不一,但大多认为其刊行实乃汉学及中外关系史研究发展的一件大事。从译注1914年开始进入近代中国学人之视野,到2000年《诸蕃志注补》整理出版,经数代先贤耗时近90年的引介,终于走完“回归”中国故土的漫长历程。作为明季尤其晚清以降渐趋频密的“东学西渐”和“西学东渐”之一例,透过对译注及其“回归”的探索,可细微之处窥见中西文化交流的美妙面纱和神奇魅力。
Both Xia De and Rou Ke Yi both learned knowledgeable sinologists at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Their deep accomplishments and co-ordination ensured and contributed to the advent of translations of Zhu Fan Zhi (English). Annotation collected at the time of the authoritative Chinese and Western historical materials seen, the translation is smooth, well-annotated, enough for future reference. After the birth, the western academia continually criticized and mixed, but most think its publication is actually a major event in the history of Chinese studies and the history of Sino-foreign relations. From the translation of 1914 into the field of vision of modern Chinese scholars to the 2000 “Zhu Fanzhi fill” finishing publishing, after several generations of sages nearly 90 years of introduction, finally finished “return ” the long history of Chinese land course. As one of the examples of the “East Learning Westward Transition” and “Eastward Learning of Western Learning” which became more and more frequent in the late Qing Dynasty in the Ming Dynasty, we can peek at Chinese and Western cultures through the exploration of translation and its “return” Exchange the wonderful veil and magical charm.
