Almost every year there are several papers dealing with compressed air handling in the total locomotive air system. In fact, through the publication and collection of papers of the American Society of Air Brake Engineers, we can see that this issue of dealing with excessive water in the overall tank system was discussed in detail in 1919. Almost from the beginning, the solution to this problem consisted of measures to prevent the moisture in the compressed air from entering the brake. The differences between these designs are mainly manifested in the volume of the cylinder, the form of the cooling additional pipe and the difference of the drain valve.
