白琥是仙人掌科裸子属品种,原产于墨西哥炎热而干旱的半沙漠地区。植株一般单生,初始呈扁圆球形,逐步长成短圆筒状,体色青绿色,具有13～15个棱,透明的白色周刺16～18枚,长约0.5～1厘米,呈放射状排列。中刺1枚,长1.5厘米左右,比周刺稍粗。只要养护得当,每年早春都会从球体顶部的刺座上侧绽开出漏头状、淡桃色花朵(见彩页)。花径约3厘米,在栽培管理好的情况下,花朵会成群开放,非常艳丽。花朵昼开
