Objective To investigate the effect of Pingyangmycin lipiodol emulsion (PLE) on the removal of blood vessels in the normal rabbit ear artery and PLE as an embolic agent. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-nine New Zealand white rabbits were infused with PLE (right ear as experimental group) and MDLE (left ear as control group) Histopathology and posterior auricular artery histological changes, vascular changes in the two groups compared the differences. Results (1) The rabbit ear contour in experimental group showed ischemic infarction. 1 to 3 days when the edema, 4 to 7 days increased edema, 8 to 14 days, part of the bottom edge of the ear necrosis, 15 to 28 days off the edge healing. Control group also edema 1 to 3 days, 4 to 7 days edema reduced, returned to normal after 8 days. (2) In the experimental group, the auricle posterior arteries under light microscopy showed that the intima was intact with only edema of the muscular layer within 1 to 3 days; the part of the membrane was exfoliated and the edema was aggravated within 4 to 7 days; the intravascular thrombus was formed within 8 to 14 days, 15 to 90 days vascular recanalization. In the control group, the auricle posterior arteries changed from 1 to 3 days and the same as the experimental group. The muscle edema in 4 to 7 days was relieved and returned to normal in 8 to 14 days. During the observation period, there was a significant difference between the two groups (P <0.05). Conclusions PLE has the effect of removing blood vessels in the rabbit ear artery and can be used as an arterial embolization agent. The embolization effect is gradual
