For the first time since 1962, Julia Jojard picked up a huge whisk on Boston’s public television and the television audience was drawn to the 1.78-meter joking housewife. Program producer Russell Malach recalls, “When Joe was performing, people were speculating who was the omelette madman?” Since then, Americans have watched her shows on a weekly basis. Most people in that era thought that frozen green beans were merely meat-based excipients rather than vegetables, and after Joad founded TheFrenchChef, she gave people the confidence to try out new dishes at home. As Roux Ricky, editor of Gourmet magazine, puts it: “She made you want to cook for yourself.” Her unique style is enough for mourners around the world to mourn her together on August 13, 2004 Died. On that day, just after her 92nd birthday, she died of kidney failure at the Monteseto Living Care Center in California.
