北京大学化学系普通化学教研室经过多年的教学、科研实践,对1981年出版的《普通化学实验》进行了适当的增删、修改和更新,编写了《普通化学实验》修订本。修订本的最大特点是增大了无机制备和选做实验的比例,删去了与后续课重复或较为陈旧的实验內容。元素部分的实验改变了过去照方抓药的试管实验,而由学生自行设计方案,教材仅仅给予提示和启发,学生运用课堂上所学到的知识,自拟实验步骤进行自选实验,调动学生的主观能动性及实验的兴趣, 修订本包括45个实验,其中新增了电位法测定乙二胺合银(Ⅰ)络离子的配位数及稳定常数、分子和晶体结构、草酸亚铁的制备及化学式的测定等。这些都是经过严格筛选、针对性强、与理论知识密切配合的较成熟的实验。在实验技术上,每个实验突出一二个基本操作,使难点分散,学生易于接受,真正掌握实验技巧。
