6. The maintenance workforce is spread all over the world, and the industrial sector faces three issues that affect the maintenance workforce. This is the increasing maintenance cost; the inconsistency between the available maintenance technicians and the demanding maintenance technicians; due to the mechanization, the continuous increase of “machine care” has reached a level where serious people are overstaffed. The emergence of these issues necessitates a fundamental re-evaluation of the entire contents of the maintenance organization and responsibilities. Third-generation maintenance management re-evaluation begins with the following questions: Who should be responsible for maintenance work in our production facilities? There are three main possible options. External contractors. · Multiple skill machine operators. Internal maintenance department. There is now a tendency to lose traditional trust in internal maintenance departments.
