After a successful construction of a pedestrian bridge on a Spanish high-speed railway near Lleida in Spain in autumn 2001, the Danish puller Fiberline Composites A / S (Cortin, Denmark) is beginning to enter the European infrastructure market. This 38m / 124ft long arch bridge is one of the longest composite bridges in Europe. Lars Peterson, a project engineer at Fiberline, said the railway company Pedelta chose to use composite because the railroad is electrically powered, while a non-conductive fiberglass / polyester composite bridge prevents electrical arcing. The company also saw long-term maintenance costs were low, although the initial cost of the bridge was slightly higher. The profiles are made of E-glass rovings, woven glass fibers and non-woven mat. Peterson said the addition of textile felts and non-woven felts enhances the shear strength and the ability to resist bolting. Fiberline’s (board) bridge deck is made up of 160 pieces
