Under the symbolic system of patriarchal culture, the female body has always been a carrier of male emotions and desires, not a part of female subjects. To emphasize subjectivity, feminist writers tend to hide their bodies and follow masculine idols. Escaping the body means avoiding the natural attributes. As a feminist poet, Plass also faces the paradox of male and female nature. In “Morning Song”, the poet wore a male personality mask in an attempt to exclude his mother’s identity and baby girl’s body, but in the end her mother broke the masculine personality mask and started to sing the hymn to the newborn.
