We can do our best at home to make use of our waste and to make it economical. When we arrived at the office, we became Earth destroyers. The documents were printed in three copies, used paper cups were pressed, and the computer was turned on overnight to make the boss think we were working. One office worker uses 250 kilograms of materials a year, including 10,000 copy papers. The heating, cooling, and power supply of office space account for almost 40% of the US’s carbon dioxide emissions and engulf more than 70% of total electricity consumption. The round-trip commuters will release 1.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide a year. The computer in the office also consumes $1 billion worth of electricity each year when it is not being used.
