我想,能让艺术再生的途径只有一条:那就是死亡,或者不断的死亡。释迦牟尼与耶稣的死足以作出证明。一个天才艺术家到达天堂的过程,其实就是一个艰难的、最具活力的创造死亡的过程,平时,普通人在现实中不能跨出的一步,绝不等于精神的殉难者不能跨出。从哥特式艺术的变化,负担和神秘的纷繁,到表现主义、结构主义和功能主义的并驾齐驱,我们看到,艺术在进行一次又一次地亘古反抗和一次又一次地勇猛开辟。死无论是感官的、情绪的、还是想象的与梦幻的,都是创造者不可回避的一种属性。诗人歌德称它为死而复生。作为一个从事现代书法艺术探索的艺术家,侯光飞为这种生与死创造了一种令人感到惊讶的力量,那就是对生命和艺术颠覆的力量!
