Mao Dun and Yang Mo set forth “Rainbow” and “Song of Youth” respectively from the social reality of 1929 and 1957 and the mainstream awareness of the times. Mao Dun demonstrated that the protagonist always keeps his personal identity as a sober, independent identity in his growth process Social thinking, but the latter put the figure in a watched status and cut into the mainstream ideology, showing the character’s subjection to and attachment to the mainstream ideology. This is a portrayal of the different experiences of the intellectuals in two different epochs and reflects the transition of intellectuals from the socially recognized elite enlightened to the political negative bourgeois tail.
