Distribution of neurotensin-like immunoreactive(NT-LI)components in the caudalportion of the fourth ventricular floor was shown by immunocytochemistry.Under the light mi-croscopy,NT-LI neuronal bodies,fibers and terminals could be observed in the ependymal cell lay-er,and the processes of NT-LI neurons found in the nucleus of solitary tract(Sol)and area postrema(AP)could be traced into the ependymal cell layer.Under the electron microscopy,NT-positiveand-negative axons and terminals were found in the cavity of the fourth ventricle.Some labeled ter-minals formed synapse-like structure with the ependymal cells.The present results suggested thatthere might be cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)-contacting neurons containing neurotensin(NT)in the Soland AP,which might participate in forming brain-CSF neurohumoral circuits or in modulating theependymal activity.
