林语堂大量优秀的英文创作和汉英译作充分体现了他对英文的驾御能力,而这些作品也从未脱离深厚的汉语、汉语文学及其文化背景的影响。从互文性这一视角来观察林氏的创作和翻译,可以看出中国传统的儒、道及佛教的精神,汉语的经典文学作品乃至汉语语言都在林氏的作品中留下了相应的印记。与英美文化本土出生的华裔作家相比,林语堂的创作与翻译作品彰显出他作为一位植根于中国文化的翻译家,在向西方介绍中国文化的过程中无法脱离的东方文化情结。
Lin Yutang’s excellent English writing and translations from Chinese to English fully demonstrate his ability to control English. However, these works have never been separated from profound Chinese, Chinese literature and their cultural background. From the perspective of intertextuality, we can see that Lin’s creation and translation can be seen that the traditional Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism in China, the classical Chinese literature and even the Chinese language have left the corresponding Imprint. Compared with Chinese-American writers born in Anglo-American culture, Lin Yutang’s works of creation and translation show that he, as a translator rooted in Chinese culture, can not break away from the oriental cultural complex while introducing Chinese culture to the West.
