In the spring of 1997, peasants in Mafangying Village, Jing’an Town, Changli County, started a new era in the land for generations: the cucumbers they cultivated featured the Russian market, accounting for 60% of their net income. After a lapse of two years, Ma Fangyingren applied for a trademark of its own cucumber variety at the State Administration of Trademark Administration to register the trademark of “Dry Cucumber” in Ma Fangying, Changli, Hebei Province, China to fill the gap in trademark registration of agricultural and sideline products in Qinhuangdao. As a result, the name of a hinterland village moved to international markets, along with a story of a rural party branch and a cucumber brand.
