鸟类学家研究认为,地球上曾经生活过的鸟类多达十五、六万种,由于历经千百万年的沧桑巨变,绝大多数被大自然淘汰了,现存下来的只有9,021种。我国疆域辽阔,地跨寒、温、热三带,鸟类资源丰富。据1983年初统计,我国有鸟类1,186种,约占世界鸟类总种数的13.1%,其中候鸟500多种。我国还有不少特产与珍稀鸟类,如列入国家一类保护动物的褐马鸡仅产于我省的关帝山林区和管涔山林区,在湖北神农架一带也偶有发现。全世界有鹤类16种,其中我国有9
