Amtrak’s leadership explored Alstom’s feasibility as a new EMU supplier to the Northeast Corridor, the busiest U.S. route to Washington that connects Washington with New York and Boston. The new EMU will be used to replace the Acela EMUs currently operating on the road. The contract provides for delivery of about 28 EMUs and the contract is scheduled to be signed by the end of 2015 - after the approval of the budgetary funds within the framework of the Federal Railway Health and Development Fund plan. Alstom will produce at its plant in Hornell, NY
