苏云金杆菌(Bacillus thuringiensis)的孢子和伴孢晶体所形成的微生物杀虫剂是十分安全、容易生产、而且是性能稳定的。这种杀虫剂对于植物没有害处,实际上是专门对付鳞翅目幼虫的。它与一切生物防除方法和化学杀虫剂都可以同时并用。它是经过害虫的肠腔起作用的。害虫摄入苏云金杆菌后,在几小时内就停止进食。显而易见,害虫的中肠酶类促使从伴孢晶体中把肠麻痹和破坏性有效毒素释放出来。这种毒素只对植株地上部表面就食的幼虫起作用。使用这种细菌制剂时,喷布均匀是重要的。在美国苏云金杆菌对四种害虫的防除费用与化学杀虫剂略等,对23个种的防除效果较好,这种微生物杀虫剂的使用,尤其在烟草和甘兰上面比较可观,且在扩大。最近对树篱的苹巢蛾 (Yponomeuta malinella)才开始推荐试用。在联合王国有人就苏云金杆菌在防除害虫方面的可能发展前途作过评论。这方面的研究工作正在积极进行,希望在害虫防除的途径方面开辟新的前景。
