BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: HIF-1α, HER-2 and Survivin are important prognostic factors in breast cancer. However, it is unclear whether there is an intrinsic relationship between them. This study was to investigate the expression of HIF-1α in breast cancer and to explore its relationship with the expression of HER-2 and Survivin. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of HIF-1α, HER-2 and Survivin in 51 cases of breast cancer. Results: ① In the group of 51 cases, HIF-1α was positive in 28 cases, the positive rate was 55%, the positive rate of Survivin was 69%, and the strong positive rate of HER-2 was 22%. ② The strong positive expression of HER-2 in HIF-1α-positive samples and HIF-1α-negative samples were significantly different (P <0.01), but the expression of Survivin was not significantly different (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The expression level of HIF-1α in breast cancer is correlated with the strong positive expression of HER-2, but not with the expression of Survivin.
