Plant health depends on associated beneficial fungi.Symbiotic Trichoderma root endophytes promote crop growth, activate defences, improve nutrition, increase tolerance to abiotic stresses and control pathogens through antibiosis and mycoparasitism.The use of selected root endophytic Trichoderma isolates with Pinus radiata in New Zealand forestry has improved health and vigour of seedlings and cuttings in containerised and soil bed nursery systems.Nursery stock inoculated with selected isolates reduced losses from root and foliar diseases (by up to 50%) and increased growth (by 5-30%) both in the nursery and in forestry plantations.
