The Catenariaceae is a small family with saprotrophic or facultatively parasitic members, which is widespread in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The Catenariaceae traditionally includes the genera Catenaria, Catenophlyctis, and Catenomyces.Study found no evidence of gametes or plasmogamy in Catenaria species, although diploidization is thought to occur during the development of the resting sporangium and meiosis. In this study, we investigate the phylogeny of the Catenariaceae based on ribosomal DNA sequences from strains identified by traditional morphological and ultrastructural characters.Microsatellite DNA primers are designed.Microsatellite DNA polymorphisms within populations of Catenaria are examined and the genetic structure are analyzed.
