The present study has been carried out to analyze the heat transfer characteristics of gaskets in the mullion region of frost-free refrigerator/freezer.A 3D numerical model for the mullion region between freezer and refrigerating cabinets was developed and simulated by Fluent.The experimental measurement of temperature was also conducted.The calculated temperatures showed acceptable approximation to experimental data.The results show that the anti-sweat condenser tubes significantly affect the temperature distribution when compressor runs.The results show that for the freezer/refrigerating gasket in mullion region thermal load integrated over a complete compressor on-off cycle operation is 5.21W/2.40 W,with the heat load of cold-bridge accounting for 20.46%/14.34.Heat load for freezer gasket in mullion region contributes 55.42%of freezer gasket total thermal load,and that for refrigerating gasket is 53.45%.Some modifications to decrease the thermal load of gaskets in mullion region were suggested.
