Lactobacillus reuteri is an inhabitant of the gastrointestinal tract of humans and animals and can produce a metabolite of reuterin which is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial substance.L.reuteri is regarded as effective alternatives to antibiotics.Lactobacillus reuteri LR2,isolated from healthy weaned piglets,was used as the original strain.
