Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL;OMIM #602475) is characterized by pathological ectopic ossification of the cervical and thoracic spine ligament, leading to myeloradiculopathy as a result of chronic pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots.OPLL was first described in detail by Tsukimoto and colleagues in 1960, and has a reported prevalence of 1.9-4.3% in the Japanese population.OPLL in Taiwan Chinese has been reported to occur at 2.8%, based on a review of hospital cervical spine radiographs.
