Genus Capsicum is the member of family Solanaceae,comprises twenty seven species,out of which twenty two are wild species and five are cultivated species namely C.annuum L.,C.chinense Jacquin,C.baccatum L.,C.pubescens Ruiz and Pavan and C.frutescens L.These species are easily crossable and represent a diverse plant group from the well-known sweet green bell peppers to fiery hot chillies.
