Parkinsons disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease related to age, caused by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc).α-Synuclein (SNCA) has been implicated to play role in PD pathogenesis.CpG methylation in the promoter region has been reported that it may also influence SNCA expression. However, CpG methylation of SNCA in neurotoxin-damaged dopaminergic neuron remains unclear. In our study, we found that transcriptional level of SNCA is unregulated by the demethylation induced the DNMT inhibitor 5-aza-2-deoxycytidine (5-aza-dC).And we also found CpG methylation of SNCA is affected in MPP+-treated dopaminergic neuronal cells.
