Based on the research of current calculating methods for the water coning coverage, this article proposes methods of fluid mechanics in porous media and numerical simulation respectively to calculate the water coning coverage in bottom-water reservoir without interlayers.Firstly, based on the percolation mechanics theory, the relationship between the height and radius of water cones can be gained if characteristics of horizontal radial fluid flow in far-wellbore area and spherical centripetal fluid flow through porous media in near-wellbore zone are considered.Secondly, this article, using the method of numerical simulation, establishes reservoir numerical concept models, which aim at calculating the water cone forms under several circumstances with different combinations of parameters, and determines the quantitative description formula of the water coning coverage through multivariate nonlinear regression method. With some analysis,it is manifested that there are some differences between the results of these two calculation methods, which is mainly due to the igorance of vertical permeability and well spacing in the method of percolation mechanics. As a result, the formula, which is acquired with the method of numerical simulation,is more applicable for field use.
