T helper 17 cells are a recently identified subset of T cells that play normal physiological role in defense against fungi and intracellular organisms.On the other hand, aberrant over-activation of Th 1 7 pathway has been implicated in the pathogenesis of many autoimmune inflammatory diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and multiple sclerosis (MS).Indeed, many drug candidates targeting Th 17 pathway are being tested in the clinical trials for these autoimmune inflammatory diseases.However, not every Th 17-targeting agent will work on every autoimmune inflammatory indication.In this talk, I will summary the preclinical and clinical finding on agents targeting Th17 pathway and discuss whether there is a "best indication" for these Th17-targeting agents.
