Amino acids play an important role in the metabolism of the human organism.Abnormal levels of amino acids suggest that certain metabolism pathway has been disrupted. For instance, phenyl ketonuria will probably appear when phenylalanine can not be transit to tyrosine.Amino acids are small molecule with polarity and not or only poorly separated due to weak retention on reversed-phase HPLC/UPLC column.Traditional LC-MS method for amino acids analysis is to enhance retention of amino acids on C 18 column by pre-column derivatization or adding ion-paring agent.
