  The introduction of gold and copper particles is an impactful method to strengthen the nonlinear optical properties of glasses due to the better synergetic effects of these two metals.Herein, gold-copper sosoloid nanocrystals with orthorhombic morphologies embedded in sodium borosilicate glass were prepared via a facile and synthetic sol-gel technique.The freshly nanocrystal was a mixture of CuAu intermetallic phase which were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) individually.The valence state of gold and copper elements was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).Furthermore, Z-scan technique at the wavelength of 800 nm was conducted to reveal the third-order nonlinear optical properties of the glasses.Interestingly, the as-synthesized glasses exhibit similar reverse saturable absorption effects and self-foucsing performances.It is worth noting that third-order nonlinear susceptibility x(3) values varied owing to size discrepancies of nanocrystals and were mearsured to be 5.4×10-14, 3.1×10-14, and 4.4×10-14 esu in the single-pulse energy of 0.36 μJ, respectively.The amazing findings indicate that has great potential applications in nonlinear optical devices.
