The composite Alumina-Boron Carbide(Al2O3.B4C)is used in PWR reactors(Pressurized Water Reactor)as burnable poison and its main function is to control the reactivity of fissile material during the operation of nuclear reactors.Boron has two isotopes,10B and 11B,but just 10B has the neutron absorption property.Sintered pellets of Al2O3.B4C are inserted within the fuel element and its interaction with neutrons producing alpha particles and 7Li element,which is retained within the pores of the pellets.
