A comprehension utilization project of vanadium-containing bone coal is proposed recently in middle area of China. The bone coal with low levels of natural radionuclides will be firstly striped and mix-burned with anthracite for electricity generation, and the ash and slag will be used for production of vanadium, and also of others utilizations, such as for building materials. The natural radionuclides in bone coal are identified as the main radionuclide of 238U varied between 196.4~653.3Bq/kg,which indicated a relative low level concentration. The external gamma exposure rates and occupational dose due to the radioactivity in some main process locations are presented. It is suggested that the dose enhancements due to the project development are obviously under the annual limit for the public individual and worker under conservative assumptions.
