Amino acids (AAs) are very important in the fields of biology and biochemistry. As the building blocks of proteins and bioactive composition in various biosystems, they are commonly resource-limited and have urged the development of microanalytical techniques.Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is such a type of micro technique that has high efficiency, high speed, low cost of operation and low consumption of samples. It is hence becoming a powerful tool in biomedical and clinical researches and in forensic practice. However, a great challenge appears in the analysis of AAs because they lack intrinsic groups such as chromophores for UV absorbance-or fluorescence-based detection.Various labeling methods have then been developed but most of them are complicated to operate.
