A novel combined technology was brought forward for purification of trans-anethol from star anise oil (mass fraction of trans-anethol was 81.03 wt%).The purifying process consisted of the removal of volatile impurities with low solidifying point by cooling crystallization [1] and the extraction of trans-anethole from the melt of crystal product by molecular distillation under low temperature [2].The effects of operating variables in the processes of cooling crystallization and molecular distillation were investigated r espectively.In the cooling crystallization process,crystal product contained 97.12 wt% of trans-anethole was yielded with 63.3% under the optimal conditions.Together with molecular distillation,the highly purified trans-anethole,with a purity of 99.51% could be yielded with 44.1%.The results suggested that this combined method should be a potential technology for industrial-scale preparation of highly purified natural trans-anethole in future.
