In the petroleum and chemical industry, where acid is often dispatched as a coolant, or a working fluid, special materials have to be used.Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a promising and welcoming sealing and wear resistance material in such corrosive environments because of its good solvent resistance.However, due to its high wear rate at normal friction conditions and poor mechanical properties, a lot of efforts have been made to improve the anti-wear and the mechanical properties of PTFE by means of incorporation with varies kind of fillers, such as fibers, fine particles, whiskers and so forth.Among numerous inorganic fillers, potassium titanate whisker (PTW) has been found to be a promising structural filler because of its excellent mechanical properties, wear resistance, and chemical stability.
