This study concerns the evolution of anisotropy in granular materials under biaxial compression.Two kinds of anisotropy, i.e.the anisotropy of particle packing (microstructure) and the anisotropy of force chains, are focused.The classical fabric tensor is adopted to describe the anisotropy of microstructure, and other two similar orientation tensors are defined by the direction of contact forces to characterize the anisotropy of force chains.Numerical investigations present the evolution of anisotropy with loading under different cases: (Ⅰ) with/without particle rolling, (Ⅱ) with/without particle crushing.Results show that the anisotropy of the force chains is more intense than that of microstructure, and the form ers intensity evolution is similar to the stress-strain curve.In addition, the particle rolling decreases both the anisotropy of microstructure and that of force chains, however, particle crushing increases the anisotropy of microstructure and deceases the anisotropy of force chains.
