An accurate and simple method of determining rotenone in eggplant was developed by High performance liquid chromatography.Recoveries of different colors eggplants were investigated at three spiking levels and ranged within 85.42% to 100.41% for rotenone, with relative standard deviations below 3.45.For outdoor conditions, the half-lives of rotenone were 1.57 and 3.32 days with southern exposure and northern exposure in green eggplant peel , and 1.95 and 4.33 days with southern exposure and northern exposure in purple eggplant peel.It can be observed that the degradation and dissipation of sunlight irradiation effects of rotenone.At harvest, eggplant samples were found to contain rotenone well below the maximum residue limit MRLs of the European Union (EU) following the recommended dosage.This study comprehends the effect of the sunlight on dissipation and residue of rotenone in the different parts of eggplants with different colors and provides a guidance to the proper and safe use of rotenone in agriculture.
