Low carbon city has become the focus of many research and policy debates within the context of climate change,as urban areas account for 67-76% of global energy use and 40-70% of anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. With conspicuously rapid urbanization,to choose a development path that reduces GHG emissions while maintaining socioeconomic momentum presents a challenge for many cities in China.Xiamen,as one of the first batch of Low-carbonpilot cities approved by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC),is dedicated to explore the way to catalyze transformation towards a low carbon economy.
