Simulated distillation (SimlDis) analysis is the determination of the boiling range distribution of petroleum products. This method is widely used in the petroleum industry because it replaces time consuming and large volume conventional distillations. In GC × GC, the entire sample is submitted to two GC separations according to different selectivities. The more often, the first dimension allows separating compounds according to volatility (related to carbon number) and the second one according to polarity (related to hydrocarbon group). It is therefore possible to separate, in middle distillates, several compounds fiom different hydrocarbons groups like saturates, monoaromatics, diaromatics and triaromatics.
