The industrial phosphoric acid produced by the wet process,includes both mineral and organic impurities,originated from the phosphate rock.Organic material removal is an important step in phosphoric acid purification process.Organic material containing in industrial phosphoric acid,accelerates the precipitation of solids in liquid-liquid extraction battery leading to the formation of a black layer at the interface of the two phases,organic material,denature the solvent used in extraction and change the color of the purified phosphoric acid.Moroccan filtered phosphoric acid contains about 400 mg/L to 1 000 mg/L,depending on the rock phosphate quality input.The technologies used for organic matter removal depend upon its content in the start product.A great number of research works have been reported the organic carbon removal by oxidation,adsorption or the combination of both technologies.Adsorption on activated carbon and montmorillonite form clays is the most used for organic carbon removal.However,no studies have been reported,dealing with the removal of organic carbon by adsorption on natural Illite clays form.The aim of the conference is to share the results of organic matter removal trials by adsorption and flotation.Moroccan clays Illite forms have been tested,for the removal of organic matter by adsorption,results show that the Illite form clays gives the same efficiency as montmorillonite clays,more than 60%organic carbon removal has been obtained.Result of carbon organic removal,from phosphoric acid,by flotation shows a low efficiency removal,no more than 20%has been obtained.However,the hybrid process using flotation and activated carbon gives more than 70%removal.
