  Purpose:A novel core-shell structure based on upconversion fluorescent nanoparticles(UCNPs)and dopamine-melanin has been fabricated for evaluation of the antioxidant capacity of biological fluids.Methods:Dopamine-melanin nano shells facilely formed on the surface of UCNPs act as ultra efficient quenchers for upconversion fluorescence,contributing to a photo induced electron-transfer mechanism.
