Gardenia is the fructus of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis which mainly grow in the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan and Sichuan.Gardenia can be used both as medicine and food, and commonly be used to treat jaundice hepatitis, bruise, hypertension, diabetes and so on.In this paper, accurate molecular weight and fragments of compounds were obtained respectively with HPLC-DAD-TOF-MS and HPLC-DAD-TRAP-MS in ethanol extract of Gardenia.12 compounds were identified by comparing of retention times, UV spectra, and mass spectra with authentic compounds, as well as summarized MS fragmentation rules.They were Shanzhiside, Gardenoside, Genipin-l-Gentiobioside, Geniposide, Chlorogenic acid, Quercetin-3-Rutinoside, 4-O-[(E)-p-Coumaroyl]-Gentiobiosylgenipin, 3,4-Di-O-Caffeoylquinic acid, 4-Sinapoyl-5-Caffeoylquinic acid, Crocin Ⅰ, Crocin Ⅱ and Crocin Ⅳ.
