The design and synthesis of selective and sensitive probes capable of monitoring metal ions has attracted interest because heavy transition-metal ions are used in various fields and the effects of these have serious consequences for the environment.[1]At the same time,multi-ions detection systems are attractive because they can detect more than one target ion in the environment.[2]Here we would like to report that ferrocenyl-based carbazole derivative could be synthesized by a simple one-step reaction. The newly synthesized receptor 1 displayed very high reversible "turn on" fluorescence response toward Hg2+with good quantum yield in aqueous environment. The color of the solution containing receptor 1 changed from colorless to yellow upon the addition of Cu2+ ions. Thus, receptor 1 can act as a fluorescent chemodosimeter for Hg2+ and a naked-eye chemosensor for Cu2+.
