Objectives: Neuropathy target esterase (NTE) has been proposed as the primary target of organophosphorus compounds (OP) that are able to induce delayed neurotoxicity in humans and susceptible animals, which affects both the central and the peripheral nerves and is charaterized by incoordination, ataxia, muscle weakness, and subsequently complete hind limb paralysis.NTE is proven to act as a lysophospholipase (LysoPLA) in mouse and phospholipase B (PLB) in cultured mammalian cells.
