Blue phase(BP)is an exotic liquid crystal phase that was discovered a century ago.In the high chiral system,LC molecules spontaneously align as the double-twisted cylinders, and these cylinders may form the isotropic fluid state,as a fog(BPⅢ),or be topologically stacked as the simple cubic(BPⅡ)and body-centered cubic(BPⅠ).For this structure,BP is isotropic systems and usually appears to be transparent. In addition, the circular polarized beam can be selectively reflected in BPⅠ and Ⅱ,as their optical lattice property. These characteristics show the potential application of BP in large-screen flat panel displays or other photonic fields. However, the primary problem is the instability of this structure, normally exists in 1 or 2K-temperature-range.So it is urgent to find a feasible way to improve the stability and widen the temperature range of BP.In this talk,we?ll tell about some recent progresses in our group on two kinds of wide blue phase range materials: polymer stabilized blue phase and bent-shaped molecules induced blue phase.Besides,a kind of light driven blue phase material will be also introduced in detail.
