We teachers have observed that during our teaching practices a number of learners faced difficulty in solving word-based mathematical problems.But these learners show good understanding and ability to answer numerical problems,as well as choice of the acceptable mathematical procedures and ID of the procedure concerned.―Comprehension of the text is key to access and then address the mathematical question‖(Reilly et al.2009).Methodical literacy mostly depends on academic vocabulary(Marzano 2005).Teachers observed the difficulties in their pupils stumble upon appreciative the mathematical meaning of simple words.Assigning students,the reading of mathematical texts,solving simple and complicated word problems are common in elementary education.While equally common is teachers disappointment in students command of assigned tasks.The study was aimed to investigate the foundations and methods of reciprocal teaching and the role of reciprocal teaching to solve the problem of poor reading comprehension skills in mathematics among the students.The study was qualitative in nature and conducted between two elementary classes of public school in district Okara,Pakistan,action research methodology applied on two same level classes,to find out more sophisticated results,on hand significant review of literature also passed out.The whole time of study,researcher noted that the students in the non-reciprocal teaching class complete each question earlier than the reciprocal teaching class,but less than 25%of the non-reciprocal teaching class correctly solved their questions,on the other side reciprocal teaching class had 75%correct solutions.The use of concrete materials to visualize a solution is also one of important tool for success in mathematics learning.Reciprocal teaching for mathematics appears to be an important strategy for nurturing the deeper understanding of text of mathematical word problems at elementary level.Reciprocal Teaching in mathematics boosts an extraordinary level of skill in critical thinking,reasoning and understanding.
