The pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) proteins are a large family of RNA-binding proteins characterized by tandem repeats of a degenerate 35-amino-acid motif.PPR proteins play critical roles in all aspects of organellar RNA metabolism. Here we report the characterization of a newly identified fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe PPR protein Ppr10.Bioinformatic analysis revealed that Ppr10 has only distant homologs of unknown function in basidiomycete fungi and plants.
